Abraham is known as the Father of Faith. His life demonstrates several important aspects of faith. Let's start with Hebrews 11:8 (NIV) - "By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going." Stepping from known to unknown, from familiar to unfamiliar, from comfort to discomfort, all because of God's promise of future blessing. We sometimes don't act on faith because we need to have questions answered, facts beforehand, guarantees and assurances. We want to be able to Mapquest our destination and figure out exactly how the journey will unfold. Abraham is an inspiration because he obeyed with limited information, no hesitation, no second-guessing. Faith urges us to move onward because it is based on heart vision which sees the unseen and embraces the promise of reward. He wandered and lived as a nomad always looking forward to the fulfillment of the promise and the arrival to land promised by God. Be encouraged by Abraham's faith - no matter where you find yourself on your faith journey. More to come.
