Praise Word # 2 - 'Halal'

The second Hebrew word for praise is Halal. This is the root word for Hallelujah which means Praise to the LORD or Jehova. An example of its use is in Psalm 9:1 (NIV) - "I will praise you O LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders." Halal means: To boast or glory, to celebrate, to express jubilation. It also means to shine or "show off." It is great to respond to the wonders of God with a joyful "hallelujah!" When we praise God or brag of His works it is the same as someone celebrating or showcasing someone he or she is proud of. We don't boast or glory in ourselves but we do express our joy that comes from our relationship to our Great God! I think that kind of "showing off" is OK. If you are in awe of God's wonders and your heart is full, praise the Lord!
