Admonish One Another

Colossians 3:16 (NIV) - "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God." Admonish is not a common, everyday word in most vocabularies. So, what does it mean? To admonish means to caution, advise, warn, or counsel against something. It also means to urge, reprove, or even scold, but in a mild, gentle, good-willed manner. It is human nature to not want to be told what to do or not do by others. That is why admonishing is best when done with all wisdom. We all have blind spots, things we don't see clearly, decisions to make where we may not understand all of the consequences. It helps so much to have someone who cares enough about you to admonish you. What they may see that we don't see can save us from much sorrow and heartache. That's why a true friend will tell you the truth even if it hurts because it shows that they really care about you. Thank God for the faithful wounds of a friend like that.
