Spur One Another

Huh? Spur one another? What's that all about? Hebrews 10:24 (NIV) - "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds." In place of the word 'spur', the NASB uses stimulate, AMP uses stir up (incite), NLT uses motivate, KJV uses provoke. As a noun, a spur is a U-shaped device that slips over and straps to the heel of a boot and has a blunt, pointed, or roweled projection at the back for use by a mounted rider to urge a horse forward. As a verb, the dictionary defines spur as: to urge or incite, impel, stimulate, inspire, induce, instigate to action. It is a way of encouraging someone to move forward and do good, showing love and taking action to help and serve others. We all need to be spurred sometimes. Spurring is not done to hurt nor to harm, but rather, to cause someone to move into positive action. Let us spur one another.
