Jesus said that the wise man builds his house on a rock so that when the rain falls, the wind blows and beats against it, the house will stand because of it's foundation. It definitely matters what you build your hope upon. Around 1834 the lyrics to the hymn Solid Rock were written by Edward Mote. I include a couple of the verses and the chorus here for your consideration:
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus' Name.
On Christ the Solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood.
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.
