Greet One Another

Romans 16:16 (NIV) - "Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ send greetings." As a spiritual family, we experience joy when we see one another and there are five passages where we are encouraged to express that joy by greeting each other with a holy kiss. So what is a holy kiss? In our western culture, we are accustomed to shaking hands and sometimes embracing (a hug) when we greet someone. In biblical times it was common for friends to greet one another with a kiss on one or both cheeks. This greeting was practiced by the early believers. There was nothing impure nor sexual about it. I think that it is a beautiful expression of the family type of love that we have for one another when we can show that we deeply love one another when we meet by greeting one another with a holy kiss. It serves as a wonderful testimony to those watching us that we truly love one another sincerely.
