The purpose of an anchor is to hold fast and firm, secure, stabilize, and support. It keeps a boat, ship, or sea vessel steady and and prevents it from drifting or being moved. Hope is an anchor for us as well. Check out these verses in Hebrews 6:17-19a (NIV) "Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure." God's firm and confirmed promise to us serves as a secure anchor for our souls. We are secured and made stable by holding on to this hope as an anchor. It keeps us from being tossed to and fro by the winds and waves of life. Hold fast to God's promises and you will be firmly anchored regardless of what may come your way.
